I've heard, after watching a few videos on Youtube, that it has something to do with Glovepie. But I could be wrong.

Here is a small video that shows how to control your NXT robot with the wiimote
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RPAy35vk1I

it's done using an Symbian mobile phone as connection between the wiimote and the NXT robot.

maybe not the best solution but it works. :)

I like the idea of using bluetooth, but has anyone considered the Nunchuck on its own instead?

If it uses I2C (I cannot find anywhere what the wire protocol is from the nunchuck to the wii remote), would it be possible to make it plug directly into the nxt.

Thus from one port one could get

1) Analogue joystick,
2) 2 Buttons
3) 3 Axis Accelerometer
Optimally, it would be great if it is possible to hack a special cord to do this, but I really don't know whether the nunchuck and the NXT would be electronically compatible.
it looks like the buttons are on a seperate PCB to the rest so that could also come in handy.
Anyone know if this is possible?

I think latency will be a limiting factor in using an accelerometer over BT - latency would stop making a lego 'balancer' or something like that,
but if we could have a direct wire interface, it
would be fast enough to do some pretty cool stuff, and at $AUS30 i would even consider cutting the wires and soldering up a dedicated a nunchuck for lego.

Thoughts anyone?

What's even more interesting about the wii-mote is the IR-position calibration scheme, which could be used for some nice GPS-like system... (The wiimote returns position and size data for up to 4 IR lightsources seen from the front IR-sensor)

This will be very nice if it works out! I love my Wii. I haven't touched my NXT since I got it :D.

I think that it won't be easy to link the wiimote directly to the NXT. The technical guide to the Wii (the one linked to in the post) says that the wiimote uses the bluetooth HID rather than SPP (serial), so I think that they won't really talk to each other.

Once the NXT firmware is released, we can hope that somebody will modify the firmware of the BT module to allow it to talk to HID devices, and then we'll be able to use wiimotes, BT keyboard and mice, etc. That will be really great. But right now, the NXT only talks to SPP devices, which does not include human-interface devices.

Actually its been known that it uses bluetooth maybe even from when they revealed the controller and that did make me think of connecting them though I did n't know if it could be done and I'd also love to see it used as a computer mouse which it seems is where this idea came from :)
