The Quality of all Lego products has gone down the drain in the recent decade and half. I can't put my finger on the exact point, but Lego sets have become more expensive and come with less bricks in the newer sets.

I remember when I was young, Lego was expensive, but if you bought the expensive set, you got a whole stack of Lego to play with, nowadays all you get are these stupidly styled unique pieces that you cant really use with much else.

The early 1990s was the Golden age for Lego in my opinion, and if you look at the old catalogues back then and the following years afterwards you can see the quality in the sets and the price suddenly takes a turn for the worse.

Now they are cutting lobs, you might as well start buying MegaBlocks, or one of those other rip off brands if you want quality now. Heck, why doesn't Lego switch to a different type of plastic like Micromachines toy range did; that company did so much better when they valued producing quantity over quality....

I have footage of Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, The LEGO Group CEO, responding to concerns of reduced brick quality. I will try to upload.

Thanks for the precision regarding the population of Billund, Ian.

I don't know where the New York Times got their numbers. Maybe they adjusted for the fact that Billund will soon merge with its neighbour, Grindsted, on January 1st, 2007. But even then, population will only be around 25,000.
