I have four of the Plano tackle boxes, one for each robot set. I'm waiting to see what the organizer boxes are like for the FLL NXT sets.

I am meeting with my students 6 times this summer so they can learn the basics using last year's challenge. (I have all new team members each year, so no "carry over" knowledge - makes it hard!) Since the NXT kits aren't arriving until sometime in August, I may have half the students continue with the RCX, and half try learning the NXT when we get it. Then, whichever system is working best by competition date is the one we will go with.

That looks like a great solution, linda zoe! I like that all the organizers fit into the carrier. Whereas in my system, I have to pack them in a crate or some other makeshift carrier. You said you organize four robot sets. Do they all fit in one Plano? Or do you have multiple?

I coach a FLL team, so I have to organize four robot sets for eight 10-year-old students. I use the Plano 1374 tackle box. It has 4 large removable organizers in the bottom part, and a large, deep top compartment that will hold an assembled robot and mission attachments. I added two smaller organizers to the top compartment to hold pins and other very small items. I got mine at Academy Sports, but I found it at Amazon if you want to take a look. I also make tiny labels showing a picture of the part, and how many come with the original set, which I stick on each little cubby hole. At the end of the FLL competition season, the students can take apart their creations and organize the parts for the next year\'s team.

It would have been nice if the NXT retail kit came with storage segments similar to the RIS retail kit.

I tried the drawer concept at first, but I was too lazy to label. So finding parts became a hassle of opening/closing different drawers to find what I needed. The plastic containers I use now work wonders, and IMO, are a lot easier to stuff in a bag or crate and bring on the road if I want to do some building elsewhere. My lazy beam pile needs some work though. The containers I use really don't accomodate those well. Perhaps I'll use drawers just for those and muster up some energy to label them.

PS - Nice new blog! It has been added to the front page links.

Wow - I am JUST in the middle of the "month long" sorting extravaganza. I have bought a few of those banks of mini drawers and a few buckets. I am trying to organize my Technic (read NXT friendly) and "interesting" (read spring loaded, motorized or rare) pieces. I am not analretentive but I do think that 5 huge rubbermaid tubs of parts is just too much digging (especially when the tubs are full to the brim and make "digging" a m essy venture. Not to mention all the "boxed lego" in my "rainy day closet".
I have plans to label with picture, lego id# (maybe LCad#) a picture, and how many of each are in each robotics set (NXT, RIS, Mars, Droids etc)
Oh and I also re did my office just ot accomidate a work area to do my NXT the honor it deserves. A piece of mylar shelving & a premade table leg made my desk twice as big to accomidate the minidrawers and the white shelf surface is perfect of building and running NXT's.
